Frequently Asked Questions

Everything IT Admins, CISOs, and Atlassian teams need to know about SKYEWORX — from backup mechanics to billing and security.

General
Overview questions about SKYEWORX, who it's for, and how it fits into your Atlassian environment.
SKYEWORX is an enterprise backup and recovery platform built specifically for Atlassian Cloud — covering Jira and Confluence. It provides automated daily backups, granular point-in-time restoration, and data sovereignty controls that go far beyond what Atlassian's native tools offer. SKYEWORX is available on the Atlassian Marketplace and deploys in minutes.
SKYEWORX is built for enterprise IT teams, Atlassian Admins, CISOs, and Managed Service Providers (MSPs) who need to protect Jira and Confluence environments at scale. It is particularly suited to compliance-first organisations, regulated industries, and teams operating under Australian data sovereignty requirements.
Atlassian secures the platform — not your data. Under the Shared Responsibility Model, Atlassian protects infrastructure uptime and physical security. Your data — individual issues, pages, attachments, configurations — is your responsibility. Atlassian's native recycling bin is not a disaster recovery tool. It has a limited retention window, no granular restore capability, and no audit trail. SKYEWORX closes this critical gap.
SKYEWORX currently supports Jira Cloud and Confluence Cloud. Both products can be backed up and managed from the single SKYEWORX dashboard. Support for additional Atlassian Cloud products is on the roadmap — contact our team for details.
Yes. SKYEWORX is an official Atlassian Marketplace app. You can install it directly from the Marketplace in minutes, with no implementation fees and no professional services engagement required to get started.
Most teams complete their initial setup in under 15 minutes. Your first automated backup runs within 24 hours of setup. Enterprise customers with BYO AWS S3 configuration may take slightly longer depending on their IAM permissions setup.
Backup & Restore
How backups work, what gets captured, and how granular restoration operates in practice.
SKYEWORX runs automated daily backups of your Jira and Confluence environments. Backups are scheduled during off-peak hours to avoid any performance impact on your team. Enterprise customers can negotiate custom backup frequency as part of their SLA.
SKYEWORX captures a comprehensive snapshot including: Issues, Epics, Sub-tasks, Comments, Attachments, Custom Fields, Boards, Sprints, Workflows, Project Configurations, and User Permissions.
For Confluence, SKYEWORX backs up: Pages, Blog Posts, Spaces, Attachments, Comments, Page Hierarchies, Space Permissions, and Macros. Page version history is also preserved.
Granular restoration allows you to recover a single Jira issue, Confluence page, or attachment without rolling back your entire environment. Search for the item by name or ID, select the backup version, and click Restore. The item is returned in under 60 seconds without disrupting any other data.
Yes. In addition to granular item-level restoration, SKYEWORX supports full project and space recovery — useful when a bulk action, rogue script, or malicious actor has affected a large body of work.
The Professional plan includes 1-year data retention. The Enterprise plan offers unlimited and fully customisable retention policies to align with your data governance requirements.
Restore operations are non-destructive — if a restore does not complete successfully, your live environment is unaffected. Failed attempts are logged in the immutable audit trail with a detailed error report.
Security & Compliance
Encryption standards, data residency, certifications, and governance controls for compliance-first organisations.
All backup data is encrypted at rest using AES-256 and in transit using TLS 1.2+. Enterprise customers can bring their own AWS KMS keys for complete cryptographic control.
All data is stored exclusively within AWS ap-southeast-2 (Sydney, Australia). No data is replicated to overseas regions. Enterprise customers can use BYO AWS S3 to write backups directly to their own infrastructure.
SKYEWORX operates under independently audited security frameworks aligned to ISO standards. Certification documentation is available to Enterprise customers. Contact security@skyeworx.net to request documentation.
No. SKYEWORX operates a zero-knowledge architecture. Your data is encrypted before it is written to storage, and encryption keys are customer-managed. No SKYEWORX employee has the technical ability to read your backup data.
RBAC allows IT Administrators to define granular permission levels — controlling who can view backup status, initiate restores, export data, and modify retention or schedule settings.
Yes. SKYEWORX maintains immutable audit logs for every action — every backup run, restore attempt, export, and permission change. Logs record user, timestamp, IP address, and outcome. They cannot be modified or deleted by any user.
Yes. Our security team can provide a full vendor risk assessment package including architecture diagrams, data residency attestations, encryption documentation, and ISO certification records. Email security@skyeworx.net.
Pricing & Billing
How SKYEWORX pricing works, what counts as a billable user, and how the Enterprise plan is structured.
SKYEWORX uses predictable per-user, per-month pricing with no hidden storage fees. Annual billing saves 20%. The Enterprise plan uses custom volume pricing — contact our sales team for a quote.
No. You only pay for active, licensed users. Deactivated accounts are automatically excluded and updated in real time as your team changes.
None. SKYEWORX deploys via the Atlassian Marketplace with zero implementation fees. Enterprise customers receive dedicated onboarding support as part of their plan at no additional cost.
With BYO Storage, you pay for the SKYEWORX software licence only. Backup data is written directly to your own AWS S3 bucket — you pay AWS directly for storage costs at your negotiated rate.
Yes. SKYEWORX offers a free trial with no credit card required. Visit our Free Trial page to get started in minutes.
Yes. Upgrades take effect immediately and billing is adjusted on a pro-rata basis. Contact our sales team to arrange a smooth migration of your existing backup configurations.
Technical & Setup
Installation, AWS configuration, API access, and technical integration questions for Atlassian Admins and engineers.
Search for "SKYEWORX" in the Atlassian Marketplace, click Install, grant the required OAuth permissions, and follow the setup wizard. The entire process takes under 15 minutes.
SKYEWORX requests read-level OAuth access sufficient to export data for backup purposes. Write-level permissions are only used during restoration events and are scoped specifically to the item being restored. Full OAuth scopes are listed in our technical documentation.
1. Create a dedicated S3 bucket in your AWS account. 2. Create an IAM role with the minimum permissions required by SKYEWORX. 3. Enter your bucket name and IAM role ARN in the SKYEWORX Enterprise settings panel. Full instructions are in our documentation.
Yes. The SKYEWORX REST API is available to Enterprise plan customers. It allows programmatic backup triggering, restore initiation, audit log queries, and retention policy management. Full API documentation is at docs.skyeworx.net.
No. Backups run during off-peak hours using Atlassian's official export APIs, which are rate-limited to prevent any load on your active environment. Restoration events are isolated and do not affect concurrent users.
MSP Partners
Everything Managed Service Providers need to know about the SKYEWORX Partner Program, multi-tenant management, and margin structure.
The MSP Partner Program allows Managed Service Providers to resell and manage SKYEWORX on behalf of their Atlassian clients. Partners gain access to a unified multi-tenant dashboard, wholesale pricing, co-branded reporting, and a dedicated technical account manager.
Yes. The MSP dashboard shows backup status, restore history, storage usage, and compliance posture for each client from a single pane of glass — no need to log into individual Atlassian instances.
MSP partners receive aggressive wholesale pricing based on their total seats under management. The more clients you onboard, the better your per-seat rate. Contact our partnerships team for a wholesale pricing schedule.
Yes. Partners can write all client backups to the MSP's own AWS infrastructure, or configure individual clients to use their own AWS accounts. Both models are fully supported.
Partners receive: white-labelled client reports, co-branded marketing collateral, security whitepapers, a dedicated technical account manager, and priority API access for custom integrations.
Submit your application via our MSP Partner page. We review all applications within 3 business days. There is no application fee and no minimum commitment required to apply.
